‘Photography is an art and art, when visualised, becomes distinctive,’ explains Maz. ‘My work is distinctive because at heart it’s classical.’ Inspired by Impressionist painters such as Monet and Degas, and the Baroque techniques of Rembrandt, Maz set about trying to translate the beauty that lay in the heart of each of their masterpieces into his photography, but also learned a valuable lesson about true artisty along the way. He reveals: ‘For all these great artists, money was never their end game. Many of the greatest artists all died poor. Whilst I have to feed myself, my passion for perfection is such that I’m regularly found reproducing work several times, until I am happy that I am giving the best to my customer.’ Put simply, Maz says: ‘Whilst this is not always commercially viable, the way I see it – my customers are only getting married once, and that once has to be perfect.’
